Richard Armitage Interview in German magazine BRAVO

Sorry for the bad quality, but my scanner really isn’t the best. But I desperately wanted to show you!

Translation:

Thorin Oakenshield - the Dwarf King from “The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug” isn’t really known for his great mood, but for him being grumpy and a brutal fighter who can get really cruel. Basically the complete opposite of the actor who portrays him - Richard Armitage! Throughout the exclusive BRAVO-interview it gets obvious that the 42 year old is a huge comedian.

Interviewer: What would you tell Thorin if you could?

Richard: Calm down, buddy! (laughs) And don’t look at everything in a negative way! Although I do think that he and Dwalin would love to go for a drink in private sometimes, and play some pingpong - like Graham and I did all the time. (giggles)

Interviewer: If you were a king in reality, which law would you enact?

Richard: I would introduce a “Everybody Has To Be Naked Day” and nobody will be allowed to wear clothes! (starts laughing out loud)

Interviewer: But why?!

Richard: (still laughing) I have no idea. I think it’s funny when everybody would have to run around naked. Especially us Britons are extremely uptight. It would be really funny if everyone came to work like that.

Interviewer: Would you describe yourself as a great leader?

Richard: Privately? Oh no, not at all! I’m more of a lone wolf and don’t like to tell somebody to do something.

Interviewer: And following orders - can you do that?

Richard: No. (laughs) I have a problem with authority, it seems. Sure, when a police man stood in front of me, holding a gun, I would follow his orders. But otherwise? Nooooope. I’m a bullhead, just like Thorin.

Interviewer: Do you hit people, like he does?

Richard: I hardly get worked up quickly. I have never had a fight in all my life. However, I won’t let others wind me up - but that doesn’t happen very often, fortunately. Maybe because I’m so tall.

Interviewer: Have you grown more brave personally because of The Hobbit?

Richard: Totally! The 18 months on set in New Zealand were unbelievable. I went skiing quite frequently. On glaciers, or on vulcanoes. I was sea angling. I flew in a helicopter. I learnt horseback riding. Jed Brophy taught me. We were riding for hours through Nowhere, really. It was incredibly great!

Interviewer: Although the last part of the film will come to cinemas next year - everything’s wrapped already. What do you miss most?

Richard: We actors had some sort of ritual: Every Sunday we had a day off and met for breakfast at the river. We talked about the work of the past week, laughed, and discssed a lot. Those were wonderful Sundays and now that they start to become more and more of a memory, I miss them a lot.
